Christmas Time is Sleepwear Time! Part 8

Those Christmas catalogs from the major retailers weren't only full of toys for the kiddies.  Nope, they covered you head to toe in all the coziest Christmas sleepwear fashions too!

And covered from head to toe are Kathy, Kay and friends (well all except one!)  I'm feeling cozier already!!

Stretching before bedtime?!?!?

Brrrr, cold feet?!? That simply will not do!  And with these snugly sleepers from Penneys, you'll never have to worry about cold feet again!!

More cozy footed sleepers for the holidays!

From cozy to chill-chasing, sleepers for Christmas were always a welcomed gift for that special lady on your list!

Even in Italy, they had to keep warm on those chilly winter nights as seen by Kathy and friend! (1)

And if the sleepers didn't do the trick, you could always add teh groovy Christmas socks (with individual toes no less!)

"Fun-to-Wear Sleepthings" Just because you're sleeping doesn't mean that you can't have fun! (Hmmm, that sounds strangely inappropriate although I don't know why.)

Still more fun sleepthings for while you're sleeping!!

Nothing says "charming romance"quite like "brushed acetate."  Still Kathy, Dottie, Kay, Lauren, and friend pull off the look!

I'm feeling the brushed acetate grooviness for sure now!

Back to the fun in 70s Christmas Catalog sleepwear!  Hmmm, somehow I can't see how sleeping with a fireman's hat is conducive to a good night's sleep??  I guess this post has officially gone to the dogs!

There was something special about that those old Christmas catalogs that made the season special. They were part of the tradition!  Well I guess that about does it for 70s sleepwear...............

Hey!  Wait one cotton-pickin' minute there pardner!!   The spirit of those seasonal catalogs haven't COMPLETELY gone away......
Instead of mail order, now we have the internet.  And while it's not Sears or JCP, PajamaGram has picked up the slack!  Face it, when you first see those PajamaGram commercials in early November, you know that Christmas shopping season has officially begun (delivery guaranteed by Christmas!)

Ahhh, that's the spirit of  the 70s in today's styles!  Merry Christmas to all my loyal readers and may you be as happy on Christmas morning as this family (maybe they've been into the eggnog a bit too much!!)

Sleepwear: Part 6 - The Heat is On!!

The heat is definitely on, and what better way to keep you're cool than looking back at some groovy 70s summer sleepwear?!?

Gulp! I thought we were going to keep our cool?  So why is the heat rising instead?  It must be because of Kathy, Kay, Barbara et al!!  "Summer Standout Values" indeed!  In fact, I may not be able to continue this post.  Must. Remain. Strong. (1)

Save $100?!?!?  Wait, that reads: Save ONE dollar, oh, never mind.  Colleen, Dottie and their friends are in a bit more traditionally feminine sleepwear attire.  Still, looking very hot for summer! With these two great pics, I'm thinking that I could stop here.  Must. Keep. Blogging.

One giant model in blue towers over a quartet of tiny, yellow women - sounds like the theme for a cheap horror flick or something.  Still my head is swimming form the first two pics.  Must. Maintain. Focus.

Even Kathy seems a bit worried by the giant blue model behind her!!

Back to the night shirts!  Must. Re-focus.  Must. Re-focus.

It seems like we can't have a post on 70s sleepwear without at least one black and white pic.  Kathy modeled the classic PJ - now in DuPont's Antron III (I guess there was a I and a II.)  Nothing says sexy quite like Antron III.  (1)

From Antron III to Nylon Tricot, those guys were certainly proud of their artificial fabrics! Regardless, Kay and Colleen are raising the heat!  Almost. Finished.  Must. Endure. (1)

Gulp!  Forget "Purse-pampering Sleepwear."  The title should've been  "Pulse-pumping Sleepwear!" We started with a incredibly hot pic with Kathy and that's how we are going end this post! (I don't think I'll get any complaints on that!)

Whew! It was a challenge, but somehow I made it to the end of this post.  I hope my readers appreciate the extreme danger, toil, and sacrifice your humble historical went through in this endeavor!  (I'm sure you're thinking "Yeah, right!")

Scintillating Sears Sleepwear - Part 4!

Hmmm, what subject of 70s catalog awesomeness haven't we explored lately.  I know!  Why not some more Scintillating Sears Sleepwear to keep us awake all night?

Starting us out with the super cutest "Sleepy-Time Fashions" is Kathy and friend.  Strange, I feel ready for bedtime, but I certainly don't feel ready for sleepy-time!

Wow! Talk about lighting up the night!  Kathy and Colleen lead the way with sleepwear (okay, "nightwear", whatever) in neon-bright colors that are sure to keep anyone from feeling sleepy!

So let's tone it down a bit with some more soothing pastel colors.  No matter, Colleen and friends keep the heat turned up for sure!  Hmmm, you know it's strange, but I STILL don't feel very sleepy!

Cozy Cover-ups are perfect for keeping the night time heat turned on high.  Kay appears to be, uh, what, jogging? I'm not sure why - maybe to keep warm?

Well, once again we're back to "nightwear" instead if "sleepwear", but hey, who's quibbling? (okay, I am, but that doesn't count)  Here we have Pam Erikson, Kathy, Kay (twice) and Pat Miles showing us the Softer Side of Sears.  However, what you call them - nightwear, sleepwear, lounge wear, etc. - they're still scintillating!

I think they went a little overboard on the rose pattern outfits here.  With blinding "Nylon Tricot" coordinates, like these, is it any wonder I STILL don't feel very sleepy?

Oh boy, I could really get into a lot of trouble here with some sort of snippy comment like "That's typical, can't make up their minds"  But I'll refrain from that as to not offend any of my readers.  Wendy Hill, Colleen, and Kay are the little devil-angels giving us the crossed signals here. Yep, I'm definitely not going to be very sleepy thinking about that! (and who can blame me?)

Thanks to JJ's Playhouse for this last pic by the way!

Scintillating Sleepwear - Part 3: Let's Get Winter Ready!

Now that the chill of winter is descending upon us, it may be a good time and check out how the big book catalogs kept everyone all cozy warm in 70s sleepwear!

And what can chase those winter chills away better than thermals?  Here we have Kay, Karen, and friends looking great and snugly warm!  Let's face it, thermals are timeless winter sleepwear!

I don't know about keeping the winter chill away, but these ladies are certainly heating things up with the long and lean look!  And when anyone mentions Nylon Tricot, the first thing that comes to mind is naturally "fashionably feminine".

Colleen and friends are definitely ready for Old Man Winter in these "winterskin" thermals. "Think Snow" indeed!  They are smoking hot enough to melt any icy blast!

Looks like these gals are certainly happy to have the warm sleepers!   Yes, of course having beautiful models in sleepwear posed around bar stools in an otherwise completely blank set is so common.  I see it all the time!

"Skirting the Issue"?  I think not!  What I just noticed about catalog sleepwear pics is how similar they tend to be.  You get a quintet or so of smashingly attractive models, set them in various states of repose, have them all face the camera (which is unusual for catalog shots itself) and  presto!, catalog sleepwear pic!

I had to include this pic for one reason and let me state it "I hate it when they had a great shot of Kathy and they did it in BLACK AND WHITE!!!!"  ARRRGGGHHHH!!!  It's enough to make me see red!!

Did I mention red?

So much for the black and white stuff.  We've changed that with some eye-popping red here, and these lovely ladies look VERY ready to face a cold winter night.  But isn't the "true love" reference with the color red more appropriate for Valentine's Day?  My take is that the caption writer was smitten by ALL these gals (and who could blame him?)

"Cozy Cover-Ups" says it all for Kathy and Karen.  These things definitely look warm.  Let the cold winter weather begin!

Program note: As you have probably noticed, I have been posting on Thursdays; however, with Thanksgiving next week, I'm going to publish next week's post on Tuesday.  See you then!

Scintillating Sears Sleepwear - Part 2

"What's this?" you ask.  "Didn't we just have a post on 70s sleepwear?"  Well yeah, but I figured that we needed some shock treatment to bring us out of the Plaid, Plaid World of last week's post and back into some kind of normalcy.  I thought some sleepwear from the Big Books would be just the ticket...

You have got to be kidding me!  More plaid!  Now with all dimensionality gone, the plaids are bleeding into other posts!  Will this plaid madness ever end!?!?!  What, oh what, will it take to snap us out of this plaid nightmare and back to our own reality?????????  Some kind of super-high-tech time machine?? A magic spell???  An elixir of unimaginable power?? What, pray tell, will end the madness????

She's got it, Yeah baby she's got it.... Wow! Kathy is a short pink nightie!  That'll do the trick.  Now hopefully that will cure us of plaids for the time being.  You've got to love the bouquet of flowers thrown in - so random.  As a bonus we also have Dottie Harris (1) is a long pink nightie and a bonus pic of her in the lower right.

Kathy and Kay with some kind of weird marionette, puppet thing going on.  As a bonus, in the small insert pic, we have all four of the K Clubbers in one shot (along with a couple of others).  Despite their dominating the catalog world during the 70s, it's actually fairly rare to find all four of them together.

Another rare pic of all four of the K Clubbers!  Colleen has got some serious 'tude going on there.  It is easy to find pics with any combination of  two or even three of them in it, but here we have another with all four (along with another model). (2)

Whimsical says it all.

A bonus pic of "Embroidered Sleepwear Coordinates".  The model on the right (top and bottom) is Pam Erikson.  The mystery model is in the middle - still haven't found out what her name is.

So it looks like the Scintillating Sears Sleepwear has dealt the Plaid, Plaid World a final death blow.  And good thing too!  After all what could be worse than plaids?

Stripes! Now the plaids themselves are fading out leaving only stripes!  At least they are monogrammed!

Say, the concept of 70s stripes is giving me some ideas..............

footnotes:

(1)  Dottie Harris had the misfortune (at least as far as this blog is concerned) of not having her name begin with a hard K sound.  Thus, while she isn't officially part of the K Club, she is an honorary member.  She, along with other honorary members, will be featured in upcoming posts.

(2) Even rarer is to find a pic where all four K Clubbers and ONLY them are in it.  Still looking for one of those!

'Twas the Night Before a Wishbook Christmas

'Twas the night before a Wishbook Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a windup toy mouse
The acrylic stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St Nick soon would be there

The children were nestled all snug n there bed
while visions of Wishbook toys danced in their heads
And Kathy in her Wincama fleece sleepthing from Sears without a cool knit cap
had just settled down for a long winter's nap

Kathy radiates a warm Christmas night glow in her super-soft sleepthing - just the outfit to settle down and have sweet dreams of Christmas!

When out on the roof there rose such a clatter
Kathy sprang from her bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window Kathy flew like a flash
tore open the shutter and threw up the sash

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
gave the lustre of midday to the objects below
when what to Kathy's wondering eyes should appear
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer

Kathy seems surprised to see Santa delivering the presents, but she is well rested in her Color-Happy Knit Sleepclothes!  They are the newest rage and sure to wake up Santa in her bright canary yellow!

Kay seems to be channeling Princess Leia in that bun style hairdo.  I bet that makes sleeping on your side difficult!

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
and filled all the stockings , then turned with a jerk
And laying his finger aside of his nose
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight

"Happy Wishbook Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Kathy is ready to lounge and have a cup of coffee while the family opens presents on Christmas morning in her "perma-prest" robe.  This pic is from 1970 and Kathy has a slightly darker hair color, which I think looks great on her.  The brunette on the left doesn't look very happy.  Perhaps Santa left her a lump of coal for wearing that crazy print robe!

Merry Christmas from this blog to all of our fans and their families.  The Christmas catalogs were a tradition in our house when I grew up.  It was one of those things that everyone in the US had in common.  Everyone watched the same TV shows on the same three channels.  Everyone watched the same movies at the same time in the movie theaters.  And kids from every social and economic background wore out their Wishbooks while eyeing all the same toys.

Christmas seems different to me now.  Maybe it is me or maybe it is that we have lost some of that sense of community that we had back then.  I admit that I miss the Christmases of that era with every store and street decked out in campy Christmas decorations.  For a child it seemed wonderful and comforting.  And I admit that I have nothing but fond memories of those seasons.

Once again, Merry Christmas!
