Random Weirdness: The Magic Man

Growing up, we were basically a JCPenney and Sears kind of  family.  Too bad, because looking back they were a bit on the stuffy side.  I really missed out by not having the Spiegel and Aldens catalogs around.  They were much livelier in their productions.  For example, check out Spiegel's Magic Man......

Kathy recoils in horror at the disembodied hand shoving a rabbit in her face.   You can just imagine her thinking "Oh gawd, not another creepy guy trying to use lame magic tricks to hit on me.  And is that rabbit, like, dead?!?!? Ewwwww!!!"

Creepy Magic Man (toupee included) can't take a hint and doesn't leave.  This time he's trying to impress them with the floating ball trick.  Kathy is probably thinking "Great, is he ever going to go away?  Am I supposed to not notice the 'invisible' wires?  Maybe I can pawn him off on the brunette?"

Apparently the gals did their own magic trick and made the creepy guy go away.  Kathy is kicking up her heels with joy.

Oh no, Magic Man is back and up to his old tricks of making animals appear - this time a dove.  All the gals seem pleased, perhaps because this time, he didn't accidentally kill it. Check out his outfit.  I guess he figured if the magic didn't make the ladies swoon, his keen fashion sense would win them over.

Oh, so much for the "magic".  Kathy is simply handing him the doves.  Maybe he decided to not take any chances after the fiasco with Fluffy the Rabbit.

Finally, Magic Man gives up trying to impress the ladies with his sleight of hand trickery.  Was it the dead rabbit that turned them off?  Or maybe the not-so-hidden invisible wires?  Or maybe the fact that Kathy was just handing him the doves?  Or his toupee?  Or his impeccable fashion style?  Well, we'll never know.  The gals seem relieved not to have him bugging them anymore.  Wait, what's that smell?  WHAT, he left the dead rabbit behind!  Ewwwwwww!

    1. Oh I agree! You mentioned Jill Twitty and Cathy Galliger. Which ones are those in these pics? I'm still trying to identify all these models. Thanks!

    2. In the first pic, I think Cathy Gallagher is the one at the bottom left in the peach colored dress. I've never heard the name before, so I'm not sure. Jill Twiddy is the one next to her in the mostly light blue paisley dress (she has short, dark hair in these shots). They both appear in the next 3 photos below that one too. Jill Twiddy I'm familiar with, so I'm sure of her ID.

  2. Mostly a Sears and Penneys family too. My maternal grandmother was partial to Aldens. Great pictures from Spiegel, the only time I ever heard about them was on game shows.

    1. I guess there was a sort of hierarchy of these stores with Spiegel near the top. I guess that is why we didn't get their catalogs. Also I don't think there was a Spiegel store anywhere near us.
