Readers of this blog probably remember when I posted about an AI software that rated pictures on how awesome they are....
The 70s were awesome
So I thought it would be a good idea to try this again with some more of teh groovy, totally awesome Big Book catalogs pics.....
What?!?! Something MUST be terribly wrong here. No way that pic isn't awesome. Let's try that again......
Okay, okay clearly this software isn't working anymore. One more time......
Well at least it isn't zero!!!
Still something must have changed. So I decided to try a pic that last time got a 99.9% awesomeness rating....
Whoa there!!! Only 15% now. Obviously the software must have been updated, and by someone that doesn't appreciate just how awesome the 70s were!!
Let's try another pic from the previous post that got a 100% awesomeness rating...
Well that confirms it!! They must have really changed the software!! And not for the better.
Let's run one more test. If you recall, there was one more pic that scored a 100% last time...
Yep, that proves it. Whoever reprogrammed this thing obviously doesn't have a sense of humor!!! But I don't care what this silly program says now. The 70s Big Book catalogs were freaking awesome, 100% awesome!!

That's So 70s: Seven Pics of 1970!!
What can me more 70s than the 70s themselves especially 1970?? The question begs the answer!!
And what can be more 70s than those groovy models like Kathy and Wendy!!
Reduced from the 70 Spring Big Book catalog!!
Yep the 70s where a Whole New Thing!
Close up of Kathy and friend from the inset pic.
More groovy 70s fashions. This time from Bellas Hess!!
In 1970 everyone was was asked "What's Next?" after the wild fashion trends of the 60s. Sadly, none of these awesome offerings from Penneys were what's next.
These fashions had more of a 60s vibe than 70s, but they still look nice!!
So there you have it dear readers: seven groovy catalog pics from 1970!!

The 70s Were Awesome. Now There's Proof!
Of course, we've always known that the 70s defined awesomeness, but now there is absolute, scientific, irrefutable proof. You see, there is a website called EveryPixel.com that tells you the probability of a particular picture being awesome. So, naturally, I had to try this out on some of our favorite Big Book catalog pics from the 70s. And the results? Well, they were pretty gosh darn awesome!
Take this pic of High Rise Pants from last week. This site's highly sophisticated AI neural net software rates this pic at 73.8% chance of being awesome. Not bad, not bad at all! (1)
Wow!! What the heck happened here? You can't tell me that this awesome pic only mustered a 14.0% rating. Somehow I think this software needs a little more tweaking...
A 99.9% score! Wow!!
Oh come on!! That score simply must be an error. How can this pic be called anything but "awesome?"
Well that's better. At least we're trending in the right direction!
Yep, can't argue about that score!! Any pic that combines a guy in a three piece suit, Kathy, and a hatchet has to get a high awesomeness score!
Apparently 70s maternity wear was pretty freaking awesome according to the software!!
Well I can't say that I know why the AI spit out this ridiculously low number. I mean you have Kathy, Karen, and Colleen (in mini skirts no less). Perhaps the program has something against smoking hot women?!?
Nah, that theory just got shot down. A 95.5% probability of awesomeness despite the poor picture quality!!
CAUTION: I must warn you, gentle readers, Please, PLEASE, do NOT use a picture of yourself in the software. Unless you are a model like these fine ladies here, the results are somewhat depressing (trust me, I know!!)
We've looked at group pictures. What about individual shots??
Did you really expect anything else for Kathy?? We've seen a couple of 99.9% scores. Is it even possible to get a perfect 100%?
Yes, yes it is. At least if your name is Kathy Loghry. For the rest of us, well, the numbers are probably a tad bit lower!!
There you have it friends! Solid, concrete, scientific proof of the awesomeness of the 70s. Well at least the Big Book catalog models of the 70s!!
footnotes:
(1) Full disclosure here. I have worked with neural net software in the past and wasn't terribly impressed. They are highly dependent on the data set that is used to "train" them. I have no idea how this software was developed. However, I have noticed that this AI tends to be a bit, well, ahem, sexist??

K Club Special, Part 33 - Kay Campbell, Part 5!!
It's time for another Kay Club Special on K Campbell!!
Two girls for every boy!! And what a great way to start off with Kay, Colleen, and friends on the cover of the 1969 Penneys Fall and Winter catalog! (1)
Now we are in 1971 and staying with JCPenneys, Kay in a long dress!
And in a short dress (with stylish hoodie!)
Now we've moved to 1973, and yep we're still staying with JCPenney for this Kay Campbell special.
And Kay with Kathy in some groovy 1973 JCP syles! After all this is the Kathy Loghry Blogspot, so we have to have at least one pic of her.
We've had Kay pics from 1969, 1971, and 1973, so perhaps we should change that pattern.....
Nah, I'm an engineer by training, we like patterns, and why mess with a winning formula. This is Kay from 1975 in JCPenneys!
Kathy, Kay, and Karen. 1975 was a very, very good year for JCPenney! (1)
It's 1977 and Kay is still going strong! She had a simply amazing career!
Kathy and Kay together again! Two classic models from teh GOlden Age of teh Big Book catalogs!

The Big Book Catalog Series - Part 12, Simpson's Sears!
How long has it been since we've had a Big Book Catalog Series post? Well parder, that's too long!
And what better way to get back into the swing of things than by taking a look at Simpson's Sears! "What was Simpson's Sears?" you ask. Well it was the Canadian version of Sears. But, not to worry. No, no, no! They still had all the 70s grooviness that the American version was famous for!
His 'n Her coordinated couples fashions? Check! Outrageous use of plaid? Check! White platform shoes? Check! Well, this Simpson's Sears thing is looking very promising!
And all of our favorite 70s catalog models? Check! and Double Check!
They even had those 70s pointy collars in Canada too!!
Big pointy collars again!
Kathy back with some groovy 70s styles! Yep the 70s were mod all over North America.
One thing about the Simpson's version of Sears is that while they usually had the many of the same models as the American version, they also had their own, Like here. I don't know who these gals are, but they are lovely!
Yep, more groovy 70s fashions!
Great action poses!
Yep, just like in America, the Big Book catalogs had everything that a Middle American, er, Middle Canadian family ended for the good like.
I guess instead of the catch phrase "America shops at Sears" they said up in the Great White North "Canada Shops at Simpson's Sears, eh"

Hmmm, there are those withe platform shes again. Were those a thing in Canada back then or maybe they only had one pair of shoes that all the models had to share!
They even had those 70s pointy collars in Canada too!!
