A look Towards Spring!!

Well, it's Winter and cold and I didn't feel like posting about THAT.  So why not take a look ahead to Spring!!

And what better way than to look back at the Penny's 1975 Spring / Summer Big Book Catalog!!

Yep, Colleen, Kay, and Karen will chase the winter blues away!!

Bell bottoms with those groovy hats - now that's a killer combination!!

Not sure about the "country looks" here, but still better than the Winter cold.

Fall Sweater Capes!!

Here's a little known (and long forgotten) fashion mini rend from the mid 70s - groovy sweater capes for those chilly Autumn mornings!!

Yeah I don't remember anyone wearing these things either, but maybe I didn't notice them at the time.

They do look warm and easy to shed if one gets too warm.  But let's face it, these are not exactly "figure flattering."  I mean even these model are having a hard time with them.

And, of course, they almost always had Kay wear to the oddest clothes.  I guess she was their go to model to move the goods!!

Sweater capes - can't say I recall them, can't say I miss them!!

When Life Was Groovy: JCP 1978!!!

 Ahhh, 1978.  I remember it fondly.  And boy, I'd sure like to go back to those days and forget this year!!!

You know I just noticed something.  In almost every one of these pics, Kathy is holding finger(s) of her left hand in her right hand.  What's up with that???? 

Repost here I know, but it proves my point!!

Aaaaaaand again.  Hmm, this is something I need to explore further in future posts.  Anyway, you just gotta love these dresses.  I haven't seen anyone where anything like that in a LONG time.  

Well, at least not a female,. Let's not go there.  Oh boy, how I REALLY miss those days.

That's So 70s: Cheery Plaids and Pinwale!!

What's better than plids?  Well how about cheery plaids??  Wendy, Kay and Kathy certainly are pretty happy and cheery in these groovy 70s plaids!!

Speaking of pretty...

Plaids in the 70s weren't only cheery, they were pretty also.  At least Kay and Kathy make them pretty!

So the title mentioned pinwale. What's that????

 

Well what every it is, Kathy, Kay, and Colleen seem happy.  Colleen is even giving us a rare smile!!

Cool it While Waiting!!

For teh mother to be, nothing could be more important than to "Cool It!"

Yep, the standard maternity outfits here!!!  Large, tent like shirts and stretch pants.  But in the 70s, at least you had those mode color styles!!

 In addition to being cool, "perky" was the other key factor in maternity fashion choices, apparently.

Just because you're expecting, doesn't mean you have to miss out on the summertime fun (well, at least not ALL of it) with these flower pattern swimsuits.

Or you can get dressed up too!!  Why all the dour looks???  You're supposed to be happy!!

That's better, lots of big similes here.  And why not?? These gals are keeping their cool!!

K Club Special: Kathy and Kay

Two of the stalwarts of the K Club are Kathy and Kay!!!

 And both of them appeared together so many time in the Big Book catalogs of the 70s, like here in JCPenneys.  You gotta love the groovy cap and the gigantic handbag that Kay is sporting!!!

Kathy and Kay again!!  I'm not sure where these pics were taken, but here and the previous pic had some really interesting backgrounds.

Now that's a lot of blue and yellow!!  Aldens apparently went for the starker background look, except for the random basket in the background.

Back to the outdoors again with Kay and Kathy wearing wintertime sweaters!!

Sew Your Own!!

The 70s may have been the decade to "roll your own", but in the Big Book Catalogs, it was more like Sew Your Own......

And why not sew your own pillows!!  A whole lot of red, white, and blue pinwheel grooviness here. However, the sewing patterns apparently didn't include shoes.
