So as groovy as the Big Book catalogs of the 70s were, they were a bit light on the whole disco scene. After all that's what most people think of when you mention the 70s. Not sure why that was, but there were a few nods to disco....
Groovy JCPenney's fashions complete with a disco ball!!
Looks like fun!!
And when you couldn't go out to the discotheque...
You could make your own groovy disco scene at hoe. All I can say is "That's Sooo 70s!"

When Life Was Groovy: Summer Tops and Shorts!!
Ahhh, summer.
The beach, the shorts and the the t-shirt tops!! Summer is almost here again!!
Did I mention the tube tops. Now that brings back a lot of memories!!
Like I said. This proves that not everything in the 70s was disco related!!
Tops and Shorts says it all!! And with that I say "bring on summer!"

Ahh, The Black Velvet Ads of the 70s
Now as long time readers of this blog know, I tend to focus on the groovy Big Book catalogs of the 70s (with a little bleed over to the 60s and 80s for good measure.) But it wasn't that way in the beginning. I envisioned a blog that would spin off into other retro-nostalgia subjects of the past, but over time the groovy catalogs were just too much gosh, darn fun!!
So let's take a break from the catalogs and return to another staple of the 70s.... those weirdly suggestive liquor ads.....
Nothing suggestive here, no nothing at all, let's move along.........
Feel, touch, a wonder what they are alluding to with this ads???? After all there's nothing at all about the quality of the product.....
So now we add smooth to the feel and touch theme. I still don't know why I should buy this product.
More feeling or feelin' if you will. Yeah I get it. They're using pretty women to sell the product but the jokes on them, I see through their little scam!!
More touch...
Feeling with money and babes, I must admit that I'm kinda feeling thirsty now....
Yeah, I mean it's almost the weekend, why not start it a bit early...
Definitely could use a stiff drink now, after all it's been a long week already and it's only Wednesday....
A nice tall drink, that'll do the trick....
Okay, it has NOTHING to do with the subliminal advertising here....
I'm just thirsty, that's all....
Yeah, yeah, that's it....
Just want to start the weekend a little early, and why not!!!!
Okay, okay, I'm done with this post, time to celebrate!!!
Yes, it IS smooth, sooooo smooth!!!
As a bonus, how many models that appeared in catalogs can you identify in these ads??

That's So 70s: Long Dresses
You hardly see long dresses on women these days, but it was still (kinda) a thing back in the 70s.
A halter with a long skirt?!?! All I can say is "That's so 70s!!"
Again with Kay and Colleen!!
Some more nice long dresses from JCPennys!!
Aaaaaaand we've got to include a frilly hat.
Speaking of hats, love the on on Karen!
No hats here, just wonderful long dresses from the Big Book catalogs of the 70s!!
One last look at some of the long dresses of the 70s!! Where did all of that femininity go??

When Life Was Groovy: Jean Dreams!!
Whether in the 70s or not, jeans are always a go-to fashion statement any season, any where!!
Bell bottom jeans and warm sweaters must mean wintertime in the 70s for sure!!
Okay, now we must be in summertime and jeans are still king. And speaking of always being in style, that goes for halter tops too!!
Like I said!!
Even out for a day in the sun rollerskating (and those are real roller skates, not roller blades) jeans look great!!

K Club Special, Part 33 - Kay, Cay, Okay???
The Big Book Catalogs were so awesome that they didn't have just one Kay, they had two (well with a slightly different spelling). So here is Kay, and Cay, Okay????
First there's Kay....
"It's You." No, no, no, It's Kay!!
Then there's Cay.....
No, no, no!! It's not you, it's Cay!!
And when you put them both together!!
It's a Kay, Cay overload (and an overload of lots of groovy 70s yellow!)
It's a Cay, Kay, Cay sandwich!!
Another Cay, Kay, Cay sandwich (with an interloper, not sure if her name Kay or not!!)
More Kay, Cay 70s Fashion Fun!!

The Ones that Got Away!
No I'm not talking about lost loves of long ago. Rather I'm talking about pics that I tried to collect for this blog that I tried to get and, uh well, didn't.
So I'm hopefully that one day I can add them to my collection, but for now, alas, this is all I have of them.....
Yep, I found this one right after it had sold. Drats!! Obviously it has at least one good pic of Kathy. Still I'm hoping that another pops up for sale someday! Jewel Tea is not exactly the most common catalog that shows up on Ebay, But I'm watching!!
This one is a bit confusing. It's not so much as one that got away. Rather, it's one that has never appeared anywhere else. This pic came from a forgotten website while roaming around the internet. I believe that it is from a Simpsons Sears catalog FW 75. I've been looking for that edition ever since with no luck.
Ouch, this one hurt!! This popped up in my automated searches one morning. It hadn't been listed on Ebay for more than a few hours at most.....and it was already gone!! What really hurt is that something like this doesn't come up very often, so the chance of snagging another one is low.
This is another one that I missed out on!! What a great pic of Kathy!! Still I wasn't too worried because I figured another would appear one day.........still waiting!!!
Note: long time readers of this blog may remember I post from several years ago where I talked about seeing Kathy on a cover of a bridal magazine in a oral surgeon's waiting room back in 1977. That is how I first learned what her name was. Is this that magazine??? I dunno. This pic doesn't ring a bell, and the date is off by about 4 years, but you know, maybe that doctor kept magazines around for a long time.
Actually, my success in getting material has been pretty good overall. These are the only ones where I wasn't successful. Now, I COULD reach out to my loyal readers for some help in tracking these elusive items down (hint, hint.) But you know, finding them is half the fun!!
